About Us

Refugees Thrive International identifies and partners with proven, local direct service providers in countries hosting disproportionate shares of the world’s refugees. Refugees Thrive International was founded in 2015 by four former St. Andrew’s Refugee Service (StARS) staff and volunteers: Sarah Wheaton, Abigail Sylvester, Cara Kiggins, and Eric Olson. Our Board has always hoped that we could highlight strengths-based narratives communicating refugees’ resilience, strengths, diversity, and humanity.

  • Refugees Thrive International envisions a world in which refugees make their own decisions about their future, refugees are safe and healthy, and refugees’ rights are respected and protected.

  • Refugees Thrive International raises awareness about refugee resilience and funds local organizations in host communities in developing countries to ensure refugees have the protection and support they need to thrive.

  • Partnership
We cultivate strong relationships with the organizations we fund, the refugees we serve, and the supporters we inform.

    Innovation
We circumvent the aid bureaucracy and respond to shifting refugee needs by funding local front-line organizations operating refugee-led initiatives.

    Diversity
We elevate diverse narratives and perspectives and fund organizations serving diverse refugee groups.

    Resilience
We highlight strengths-based narratives communicating refugees’ resilience, strengths, diversity, and humanity.
